Investment in culture

Supporting the vision and ambitious policy goals of the Culture Compass for Europe

Investing in culture means investing in peace, democracy, social cohesion, quality of life, competitiveness and innovation.

Securing substantial financial support and strategic investment is crucial to maintain a thriving cultural life and maximise culture’s positive benefits.

Supporting the vision and ambitious policy goals of the Culture Compass for Europe requires more systematic mobilisation of existing and forthcoming funding instruments at every level, in parallel with private investment and philanthropy.

Key actions to secure investment in culture

  • simplify access to EU funding for culture (under the current Creative Europe programme and the future AgoraEU) and update the CulturEU funding guide
  • develop EU guidelines on strategic investment in culture, and explore innovative investment tools to attract private capital, including philanthropy, in cooperation with relevant financial institutions
