European Heritage Label: 2027 selection procedure now open

Heritage organisations are invited to apply for the call. The initial procedure is carried out at national level.

""

The selection procedure for the 2027 edition of the European Heritage Label (EHL) action is open. Interested organisations should contact the EHL coordinators in their respective countries for the details of the application, as this first stage of the process is done at national level.

EHL: illustrating the values that underpin the EU

The European Heritage Label emphasises education and awareness and seeks applicants dedicated to engaging young audiences in exploring European history and its relevance today.

Currently, 80 sites are part of the EHL network, each serving as a case study illustrating the values that underpin the European Union.

These sites have shaped contemporary Europe, influencing societal views and citizen rights. Heritage sites interested in sharing Europe’s story, prioritising creativity and engagement, and passionate about narrating past stories to younger audiences should consider applying.

Benefits of the European Heritage Label

The benefits of European Heritage Label include:

  • offering a new interpretive dimension—highlighting the site's role in European history and integration
  • providing staff with training and capacity-building opportunities
  • opportunities to apply for specific funding opportunities
  • membership in a European network of other heritage sites, enhancing access to expertise and knowledge-sharing within the EHL network
  • participation in an award ceremony in Europe and a two-day forum upon recognition

About the European Heritage Label

Supported by Creative Europe, the initiative aims to spotlight the shared cultural heritage resonating across the EU. Since its inception in 2011, the European Heritage Label has recognised sites representing milestones in shaping today's Europe, promoting European ideals, values, history, and integration, and fostering a closer relationship between the European Union and its citizens.
