Next steps

The selected project teams are now invited to further develop their ideas into concrete proposals.

In September 2022, representatives of the project teams will meet in an online “Spaces Lab” to discuss the process, their partnerships and evaluation models.

The deadline for submission of the final project proposals is 20 November 2022.

The ultimate selection of projects will be done before the end of the year.

Projects are expected to take place between January and October 2023.

About the call for ideas

The European Spaces of Culture Call for Ideas 2022 aimed to

  • encourage people-to-people contacts through a bottom-up approach, based on local consultation and co-creation
  • go beyond projection of the diversity of European cultures
  • focus on a new spirit of dialogue, mutual listening and learning, where partners are on equal footing and engage in a joint capacity building process

These guiding principles reflect the EU strategy for international cultural relations and the Strategic Framework 2020-2024 of the EU National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC).

About European Spaces for Culture

The Preparatory Action European Spaces of Culture (2019-2023) is testing innovative collaboration models in cultural relations between European and local partner organisations in countries outside the EU.

The action and its pilot projects aim to seek new ways of collaboration in cultural relations, which reflect the EU strategic approach to international cultural relations. 17 pilot projects have already been implemented or are in the process of implementation worldwide.
