13 sites to receive the European Heritage Label

The sites are being recognised for the significant role they have played in the history, culture, and development of the European Union and for their commitment to public engagement.

The European Heritage Label (EHL) is a unique initiative supported by Creative Europe to promote a shared understanding of European history grounded in fundamental rights, democratic values and pluralism.

A panel of independent experts chose the 13 sites from a shortlist of 21 candidates that member states selected. Each site symbolises a unique piece of Europe's diverse history and integration, embodying the core values at the heart of Europe.

The 2025 selection year marks a significant increase in the number of awarded sites, with the most recipients since 2014. Since 2013 a total of eighty sites have been awarded the European Heritage Label.

The sites will receive formal recognition as EHL members at the European Heritage Label awards ceremony, taking place in Brussels on 22 April 2026.

About the European Heritage Label action

The European Heritage Label action highlights heritage sites that have been crucial to European history and integration, helping people understand the Union’s values.

It focuses on the cultural and educational aspects of heritage, encouraging active participation and dialogue, especially with young people. EHL promotes a sense of belonging to Europe while respecting diverse national and local identities.

In today's context, the EHL's role has become even more important: it serves as a unique tool to foster a shared understanding of European history, centred around fundamental rights, democracy, and diversity.
