Culture Moves Europe awarded 7274 grants in its first edition
More than 7000 artists and cultural professionals received support from Culture Moves Europe’s first edition of mobility grants that closed on 1 July.
Since its start in 2022, Culture Moves Europe (CME) quickly became the biggest artistic mobility support in the cultural landscape of the 40 Creative Europe countries.
It offered mobility grants to 7274 artists and cultural professionals through its two actions: individual mobility and residency, distributing more than €15 million.
Grantees committed to decrease the ecological footprint of their mobility projects. More than half of them travelled in a more sustainable way, using an alternative to airplanes. For the distances below 1000 km more than 87% of the journeys were green. Most of the grantees have also implemented sustainable practices in their projects, in line with Culture Moves Europe guidelines.
Additional grants allowed for more inclusive actions
The results also reveal an increasing interest in the top-ups CME offered that aim at allowing the broadest participation possible:
- Family top-ups have been provided across both actions: 6.1% of grantees
- 146 visa top-ups helped to cover costs of obtaining visas, -mainly involving applicants from Tunisia and Armenia
- 163 top-ups (2.2%) allowed grantees to travel from and to overseas countries and territories and outermost regions, such as New Caledonia, Azores, Guadeloupe or Canary Islands thanks to additional financial support
- Accessibility support was granted to 42 applicants whose disability made their participation more difficult
Special focus on young and emerging artists
Culture Moves Europe focused on young and emerging artists too, with some promising results:
- 97.7% of individual mobility grantees report developing new skills, particularly internationalisation of their careers, development of artistic skills and individual development (improving self-esteem and self-empowerment)
- 95.6% plan to engage in international mobility again in the future
- 99.6% would recommend Culture Moves Europe to other artists and cultural professionals
- 76.2% of individual participants indicate that their mobility resulted in a job offer, a new contract or a new opportunity for a project
- 77.9% of the grantees would not have been able to develop their project without the Culture Moves Europe grant
