European Union is the guest of honour of the Guadalajara Book Fair in Mexico
Being guest of honour of the largest book fair in Latin America is an opportunity to reinforce the EU’s relationship with the region and to showcase the cultural and linguistic diversity of the EU and its 27 member states.
The European Union is the guest of honour at the 37 edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, which is organised from 25 November to 3 December 2023, major cultural event in Latin America that attracts 800 000 visitors. The event helps generating new spaces for collaboration and strengthen the EU’s relations with Latin America.
Building a Union of Cultures
The EU participates in the Guadalajara book fair under the slogan “Building a Union of Cultures.”
The EU’s literary programme involves participation of more than 70 writers from the EU’s 27 countries and from Ukraine, including 12 authors who have received the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL).
The European Union Youth Orchestra opens the rich artistic programme that includes
- musical and dance performances
- a cycle of European cinema
- various exhibitions of visual arts
- gastronomic programme
An exhibition of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Awards 2022, that was recently on exhibition at MEXTRÓPOLI in Mexico City, is also be part of the fair, hosted in the Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara.
50+ European publishers to participate
Activities for professionals from the publishing industry and the book sector are an essential component of the EU’s presence at the Guadalajara book fair: more than 50 publishers and professionals from the 27 EU countries are participating.
The European External Action Service and the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments organise the participation of the EU as guest of honour in Guadalajara in coordination with the Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture and in full consultation with European countries.
