Here are the winners of the 2022 Young European Heritage Makers Competition

The jury awarded 8 projects from 6 countries.

The Young European Heritage Makers Competition invites children and high school students to explore their surroundings, learn about their local tangible and intangible cultural heritage and share a story about Europe. This initiative enhances young people’s understanding of the concept of heritage and its relevance to local communities.

People from 6 countries expressed their vision of heritage through more than 60 testimonies:

  • Finland
  • Italy
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain

After a first selection at national level in 2 age categories, a European panel of judges evaluated the shortlisted projects. This chose 8 winners based on the relevance, quality and creativity of their heritage-awareness raising projects.

Age category 6-11 years old

The selected winners in both age categories will have the opportunity to present their projects at an online ceremony on 24 March 2023. In addition, a special exhibition will be organised in Strasbourg.

About the Young European Heritage Makers Competition

The European Heritage Makers Week (EHMW) is one of the key initiatives of the European Heritage Days (EHD). The objectives of this initiatives are as follows:

  • To collect experiences and stories of how children and young people understand the European dimension of local heritage.
  • To identify and promote testimonies of young people with a keen interest in heritage.
  • To bring future #HeritageMakers into the spotlight and connect them with their peers from other parts of Europe.

About European Heritage Days

The European Heritage Days (EHD) are the most widely celebrated participatory cultural events shared by people living in Europe. With up to 70 000 events organized every year in the 48 European States signatory to the European Cultural Convention and attracting up to 30 million visitors.
