Elevating culture, enhancing well-being

Exploring the role of cultural participation to address the global mental health crisis at MONDIACULT 2025.

29 September 2025
Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB), Spain

Culture participation is being increasingly recognised as a promising strategy to address the growing crisis of mental health worldwide, particularly among young people. How can we foster its full potential at individual, community and society level?

The European Commission organised a side event on culture and wellbeing at MONDIACULT 2025 - UNESCO’s World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, in Barcelona.

Culture and Health: The Time to Act is Now

During the side event hosted by Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport presented the report: “Culture and Health: The Time to Act is Now”.

The report written by experts from ministries of culture and health of EU countries examines future policy and programme initiatives to strengthen collaboration between the cultural sector and the fields of mental health and well-being.

About the event

The side event brought together speakers from different background to highlight how cultural initiatives can foster inclusion, belonging, and healthier societies. The event also explored how cultural participation can be harnessed as a powerful tool to address the global mental health crisis, particularly among young people.
