EUmies Awards Young Talent 2025 finalists announced

12 projects from 11 schools and 7 countries have been selected as finalists for the EUmies Awards Young Talent, which celebrate young talent in the field of architecture.

The projects, selected by an independent jury, touch upon various topics such as housing, climate emergency and resilience, intergenerational fairness, youth, culture and sport. The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on 19 June 2025 during the Venice Biennale, in Palazzo Michiel.

Ruining the ruinous ruin (Free University of Brussels, Belgium)

This project reimagines the preservation of decaying structures by embracing their deterioration, fostering a dialogue between past and present through adaptive reuse.

Beyond Demolition (Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany)

Challenging conventional demolition practices, this project advocates for the transformation of obsolete buildings into functional spaces, emphasizing sustainability and heritage conservation.

Hotel Interim (Bauhaus-Universitaet Weimar, Germany)

A temporary lodging solution that addresses urban housing shortages by repurposing underutilized spaces, blending hospitality with social responsibility.

Brave New Axis (National Technical University of Athens, Greece)

This urban planning initiative introduces a new spatial axis to reconnect fragmented city areas, enhancing mobility and fostering social cohesion.

Street runners: Supporting infrastructure for the workforce of the supply chain (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece)

Focusing on the often-overlooked logistics workers, this project proposes infrastructural improvements to support their well-being and efficiency within urban environments.

Rescripted Napolitan Realities (University College Cork & Munster Technological University, Ireland)

Set in Naples' Vele di Scampia, this project introduces a participatory film festival and craft school to reframe the area's narrative, blending baroque aesthetics with community-driven regeneration.

Three Chimneys Archipelago (IUAV University of Venice, Italy)

Transforming an industrial site into a cultural hub, this project preserves historical elements while introducing new public spaces to foster community interaction.

People and Outlaws (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway)

Exploring the dynamics between formal and informal urban settlements, this project seeks to integrate marginalized communities through inclusive design strategies.

Sacred (Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain)

This architectural endeavour reinterprets sacred spaces, creating environments that accommodate diverse spiritual practices and promote interfaith dialogue.

Tabacalera (Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain)

Revitalizing a former tobacco factory, this project converts industrial heritage into a vibrant cultural centre, preserving historical identity while serving contemporary needs.

Other Monuments (Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain)

Challenging traditional notions of monumentality, this project proposes alternative commemorative structures that reflect collective memory and evolving cultural narratives.

About the EUmies Awards Young Talent

The EUmies Awards Young Talent was created in 2016 to highlight outstanding diploma projects of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture students from all over Europe and selected third countries. It is granted every other year.

The EUmies Awards Young Talent is organised by the Foundation Mies van der Rohe with the support of Creative Europe, in partnership with the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) and the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE).
