Circulation of European literary works

Creative Europe supports the translation, publication, distribution and promotion of works of fiction.

The funding scheme “circulation of European literary works” supports on average 40 projects per year. These translate and promote 500 European literary works from and into at least 40 languages.

Strengthening diversity

An important factor of the scheme is how it supports works written in less widely spoken languages to develop their distribution to larger markets in Europe and beyond.

Raising the profile of literary translators

This scheme also

  • promotes and raises the profile of the profession of literary translator
  • strengthens the competitiveness of the book sector by expanding cooperation within the book value chain

All the projects financed under this action must also take into consideration inclusion, diversity, gender equality and the environmental transition in their design and implementation.

Eligibility for funding

Works of fiction in languages from countries taking part in the Creative Europe programme are eligible. Latin and ancient Greek as well as certain regional and minority languages are also eligible.

Organisations active in the publishing and book sector are eligible to apply. Individuals cannot apply on their own.
