Leuven, Larnaka and Nikšić
2030 European Capitals of Culture in Belgium, Cyprus and Montenegro.
Leuven
Nestled in a green region neighbouring Brussels, the city of Leuven has 104 000 inhabitants and over 60 000 students. It has developed its candidacy under the theme LOV2030 – human nature, with a will to include the whole surrounding region and building new connections.
Larnaka
To counter ongoing global crises, Larnaka aims to bring back anthropia (our deep and common human values) at the centre of the stage. Through the exploration of a “common ground in all its forms, whether physical, mental or emotional, the city wishes to foster togetherness, vulnerability and care.
Nikšić
Responding to growing global divisions and tensions, the city of Nikšić chose to develop its bid around the theme of the “open city” and the concept of “čojstvo” (“being human”). Through a powerful cultural programme, the title year will be an opportunity to showcase that openness and solidarity pave the way towards positive transformation: from creativity and learning to resilience and collective wellbeing.
