The European Heritage Label Bureau

The European Heritage Label Bureau supports the heritage label sites and national coordinators of this action.

Since March 2023, the European Heritage Label Bureau has been operating as the European Heritage Label (EHL) sites’ umbrella organisation. It supports the development of the European Heritage Label’s “community of practice”, and supports the EHL sites and national coordinators for the period 2023-2026GOPA-PACE manages the Bureau during this period.

Objectives of the European Heritage Label Bureau

The EHL BUREAU builds on the success and legacy of the 2019-2022 of the EHL@Network. It offers EHL sites and national coordinators opportunities for networking, collaboration and training as well as outreach and visibility development.

The European Heritage Label Bureau started in March 2023 and will conclude its work in July 2026.

These are the objectives set out for the bureau:

  • Development of synergies between EHL sites, national coordinators and active players in the cultural heritage sector.
  • Developing the skills and resources of EHL sites and EHL national coordinators by providing peer-to-peer learning opportunities and easy access to information through a resource centre.
  • Support the sites’ communication and promotional activities through a strong outreach plan, visual identity which is based on the needs of EHL sites and national coordinators, with a thorough knowledge of target audiences – especially youth and marginalised communities. 

Background 

On June 30, 2022, the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA) published a €3 million call to support the creation of a European Heritage Label umbrella organisation. The successful applicant was selected in December 2022.

In 2018, the Directorate General for Education, Youth Sport and Culture and of the European Commission published a call to support the design and management of networking and capacity building activities for European Heritage Label sites. The successful applicant was the EHL@Network project led by the EHL Site – Imperial Palace in Vienna. The EHL@N ran between 2019 and 2022.
