The Constitution of May 3 1791 was adopted by the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, to ensure more freedom and political equality on its territory and introduce the constitutional monarchy system.

It reflects enlightenment influences, which gave primacy to reason, law and freedom, as well as religious tolerance, and is considered as one of the first constitutions of its type in Europe.
