Culture and Creativity

S+T+ARTS is driven by the idea that science and technology combined with an artistic viewpoint delivers valuable perspectives for research and business. Recent STARTS projects address the use of AI-systems and Hyper-Performance computing for use cases such as media, disinformation, XR environments, climate change, food security, urban development, factory automation etc. through a number of dedicated sub-projects. In light of the continuing digitalisation of society, STARTS provides a holistic and human-centred approach.

Through its different pillars, S+T+ARTS offers:

Startup Europe is an initiative connecting high tech startups, scaleups, investors, accelerators, corporate networks, universities and the media to accelerate growth of the European startup scene. It is supported by a portfolio of EU funded projects and policy actions.

The WORTH Partnership Project supports creative sector SMEs to collaborate transnationally with a view to develop innovative design-driven products by stimulating exchange and partnership between creatives, designers, manufacturers, crafters and technology firms. It is based on key principles such as quality of experience, including style and aesthetics, healthy and safe living environments, sustainability and circularity as well as inclusion, accessibility and affordability. Launched in 2021, WORTH II follows the success of the first edition (2017-2021).

Culture Moves Europe, is the new permanent mobility scheme funded by the Creative Europe Programme. It aims to foster sustainable and inclusive mobility in the cultural sector and will give particular attention to emerging artists. The scheme follows the successful I-Portunus pilot project and will award around 7000 mobility grants between October 2022 and June 2025.

Projects promote mobility activities for:

  • Learners: pupils, students, trainees, apprentices, young people, adult learners;
  • Staff: professors, teachers, trainers, youth workers, and people working in organisations active in the education, training and youth fields;

Projects mainly aim to support learners in the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes, including language competences.

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a cross-border exchange programme, allowing aspiring young entrepreneurs to work with and learn from more experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other countries.

The objective of the Markets & networking support is to enhance the promotion of European content in the global market and to foster cooperation among all parts of the audiovisual value chain for the co-creation and promotion of European audiovisual works. Cooperation of audiovisual professionals and promotion of European works are pursued by supporting two types of projects and activities:
• Markets focusing on a specific type of films and innovative content, or networking of markets that present similar genre/topics or are located in the same region;

This pilot project will create a space that aims to provide policy makers and stakeholders with information on the metaverse as well as fostering the discussion community of policy makers, academia and stakeholders, thereby realising a sound, sustainable and free from bias development of the metaverse in the EU.

In a context in which the European media sector is struggling to offer accessible, plural and innovative content to European audiences, this call proposes to support European media hubs producing and disseminating pluralistic news and factual content across Europe.
Applicants targeted include news media organisations and other organisations active in the media sector managing or willing to set-up media hubs (e.g. physical or virtual newsrooms).
