The purpose of the Cross-sectoral strand is to reinforce collaboration between different cultural and creative sectors (CCS) in order to help them address the common challenges they face and find innovative solutions. These are its main priorities:
- to support cross sectoral transnational policy cooperation, promoting the visibility of the programme and support the transferability of results
- to encourage innovative approaches to content creation, access, distribution, and promotion across CCS and with other sectors
- to support adjustments to the structural and technological changes faced by the news media
- to support the establishment and activities of the Creative Europe Desks
Innovative digital solutions for the cultural and creative sectors
Through the Creative Innovation Labs action, Creative Europe encourages innovative approaches to content creation, access, distribution, and promotion across the CCS, as well as with other sectors, taking the digital transition into account.
The purpose of the Creative Innovation Labs is to
- incentivise players from different CCS to design and test innovative digital solutions with long-term positive impact
- facilitate the creation of innovative, close-to-market tools, models and methods for the audiovisual sector and at least another creative or cultural sector
New support to the news media sector
One of the novelties of the Creative Europe 2021-2027 programme is its support to the news media sector, to promote media literacy, pluralism and media freedom, as well as activities to help the sector adjust to the structural and technological changes it faces.
Funding opportunities target the wider European news media sector, including small media. In particular, there are multiple lines of actions:
- support journalism partnerships that create systematic collaborations among media organisations
- support projects that enable knowledge sharing on media literacy
- support a project providing rapid responses to violations of press and media freedom
- support self-regulation and ethical codes in journalism
- monitor media freedom and pluralism by assessing relevant legal frameworks across Europe and possible risks to media ownership transparency
