The MEDIA strand of the Creative Europe programme supports the European film and audiovisual industries to develop, distribute and promote European works, taking into account today’s digital environment.
In addition it

  • encourages cooperation across the value chain of the audiovisual industry and at EU level in order to scale up enterprises and European content globally 
  • nurtures talents – wherever they come from – and facilitates knowledge-sharing 
  • supports innovative solutions to meet the market demands and trends 
  • engages with audiences of all ages, especially the younger generations

35 years of support

In 2026, the MEDIA strand celebrates 35 years of support to European audiovisual content.

MEDIA has consistently aimed to serve the double objective of supporting cultural diversity and improving the competitiveness of the audiovisual industry. It keeps adapting to emerging challenges and opportunities, including new technologies and changing consumption habits, covering film, TV, video games and XR alongside new forms of support. In a world in motion, it keeps stories in motion.

The proposed AgoraEU programme contains a strengthened MEDIA+ strand for the 2028 - 2034 period.

Since 2021, to ensure more flexibility in the actions supported and to encourage cooperation among the different parts of the audiovisual value-chain, the priorities are structured around 4 clusters.
